"GARB-age" Solo Show at Union Bank & Corporate Headquarters in San Francisco

Thanks to Ventana Amico and Alexandra Lee Cefalo of ALC Designs, both members of Fiber Dimensions, the Project GREEN Runway trashion collection will be on view at my Solo Show, "GARB-age", at the Union Bank and Corporate Headquarters in San Francisco, 350 and 400 California Street, respectively, March 26 - June 10.

For this show, Elise created two new trashion pieces out of plastic newspaper bags from the SF Chronicle and New York Times . All bags were collected from neighbors, friends, family, colleagues and members of the
Plexus artist group.  Upon hearing about the opportunity to show my work in San Francisco, I thought about how an historical 1865 Civil War dress could do double duty for getting my message out there about the fate of the plastic bag.   Like Margaret Mitchel, author of "Gone With the Wind", who wrote about the changing culture in the South, my ensemble, "Scarlett O'Hara" and "Rhett Butler", is a commentary about the inevitable fate of the plastic bag, hopefully following San Francisco's lead of removing plastic bags from grocery and department stores.  I hope Scarlett's dress made out of the famous green SF Chronicle bags will be inspirational and educational in my continuing cause to ban plastic bags... forever!

The show moves to 500 Howard Street in San Francisco, June 10 - August 29. From there, it travels across the Bay to Oakland, at 1111 Broadway Street, and will be on view August 29 - November 26, 2013.

For this show, I researched the history of Union Bank and learned about its origin in Japan. I created NEW Artwork, "Water", a faux kimono made out of mixed media, for the show.  With south light beaming through the large plate glass windows, the translucent fabric shows impressions that are reminiscent of the life-giving water that continues to inspire my social activism. This work is on view at the Corporate Union Bank Headquarters.

The Project GREEN Runway collection, joined by NEW ensemble, "Gone With the Wind", featuring historical 1865 dress and 3-piece suit and coat inspired by Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler, will be on view at the Union Bank & Corporate Headquarters, 350 and 400 California St, respectively, in San Francisco, March 26 - June 10, 2013.  The collection will move to 500 Howard Street for a month, then continue on to 1111 Broadway in Oakland, CA, August 29 - November 26.  There will be a formal Opening and Reception in Oakland, where I look forward to seeing you.  NEW body of work of fabrics created with acrylic gel skins are on  view at the O'Hanlon Center For Art through April, and in San Francisco through June 10, 2013.  We are grateful to Curator, Alexandra Lee Cefalo of ALC Designs, for making this show possible.  We extend our thanks to her husband Eduardo for his beautiful pictures included in the slideshow below.
